When you work in the technology industry, you become the go to guy for answers with family and friends. That happened for me this past week with my sister-in-law. Most often, I get request on which phone would be best for their needs, or questions about slow computers. You know the basic types of problems and questions.
What my sister-in-law was having a problem with though is a bit more serious. She had a problem with her computer “not working.” Not working can mean a lot of things. I asked her to bring it by and let her know I would take a look at it.
Turns out her hard drive was dead. Totally unrecoverable. After asking her several questions it sounds like she most likely had an infected computer. She brought the problem to my attention too late in the game. The big problem for her was that she lost all of the pictures, music, movies and documents that she had saved on that computer.
Don’t let that happen to you. This is why I tell everyone to make regular backups of your hard drive to protect you from this kind of a problem. PC backup is easier than ever to do too. One website that I recommend for help with backing up your PC is mypcbackup.com. There you can do online backup for all of your photos, music, emails, videos, documents and more.
The website is free to join too. There are free accounts and there are also paid upgrade options that are very reasonably priced. You get unlimited online storage space, automated backups so that you don’t have to manually do them and you can get access to the files from anywhere. You also don’t need an external hard drive; instead it is all done securely online.
So if you are not currently backing up your PC, its time you started today.
