Spring Break apps

If you liked this post, say thanks by sharing it:

It’s Spring Break Time – a time when tens of thousands take a much anticipated late winter break and head to someplace warm. Whether you are flying or driving, heading for a family vacation of a college getaway, our PC Mike has some helpful travel apps to make handling all the Spring Break logistics just a little easier.

Start with Gas Buddy, cheap gas locations as you drive. Locate the nearest low-priced gas station, and report others you find along the way. Driven by a community of discerning drivers, this free app filters results by distance and price, and maps out locations for easy reference. It’s on all major mobile platforms.

As you’re driving or visiting a new place, the Around Me app sure can come in handy. It identifies your position and allows you to choose the nearest Bank, Bar, Gas Station, Hospital, Hotel, Movie Theatre, Restaurant, Supermarket, Theatre and Taxi. AroundMe shows you a complete list of all the businesses in the category you have tapped on along with the distance from where you are. Free for iPhone, iPad, Android and Windows mobile devices.

One more… TripIt for Andoid and Apple gizmos. It serves as a repository for all your travel details… all organized and presented in itinerary style in one place. It works on your smartphone, tablet or through your computer, online at tripit.com.

Thanks for posting these apps, Mike. I have a few friends going on a road trip, so I thought I would take a few days off from work at DISH to join them. I’m sure Gas Buddy will come in handy, and I think Around Me sounds helpful as well. There’s another app that I use daily, but it’s great for traveling too; I use DISH Anywhere to stream live TV and DVR recordings to my phone over 3g, 4g and WIFI. We will be taking turns driving, so I like the idea of being able to watch a movie when I’m not in the driver’s seat.
