With the Memorial Day holiday has come the unofficial start of summer. And summer means vacation time and travel. Planning and keeping track of those vacation trips is a breeze these days thanks to a slew of trip apps for our mobile devices. Here’s a look at the best of the bunch:
When it comes to Road Trips, the travel app getting all the buzz this year is Trip Journal, available for $2.99 for the iPhone and Droid
This does everything, allowing you to document your travel experiences and automatically track your itinerary in real time, while having fun vacationing. Its integrated with Google Earth, GPS navigation and geo tags that… besides mapping and recording everything… can then update your friends and Facebook followers or Tweet your location.
Trip Journal archives and organizes photos and videos you’ve taken can make travel blog posts for you and even allows to embed your trip map into your blog.
If that’s too detailed for you, consider the $2.99 Momento app for the iPhone. It’s a diary, meant to be written on the go. I really like the interface here, tied to a calendar design., linked, of course, to social media and integrated with your photos.
One more. Travel app you need…Foodspotting. I know, there are lots of these. But this doesn’t list all the restaurants, you search by looking up the food you’re craving, or find out good at a particular restaurant and discover the best foods around you wherever you go. It’s pretty cool.
