How to Set Facebook Privacy Settings

If Facebook and it’s half a BILLION users were a nation, do you realize that it would be the third most popular country in the world, right after China and India?

With such massive popularity comes massive privacy issues. A lot of people reveal too many personal details to anyone who does some Facebook snooping.

Here’s how to shore up those public revelations:

The first thing everyone on Facebook need to do is review their privacy settings.

You do so up on the upper right of your main Facebook screen under the “Account” drop down menu, in the basic directory information section. There you can control who can see your information, political views, personal details. You can make that available to everyone, friends of friends or friends only.

I recommend “Friends Only.” You can fine tune them even more under “Customize Settings.”

Don’t stop there. Go to the “Applications and Websites” section. This controls who sees what’s happening with the Facebook applications and games you use. And don’t neglect the “Info Accessible through your friends” section. My suggestion here is click only the minimal settings. Remember… your friends’ friends can see what you check here.

Last thing: The “Public Search” site. When people look for you using a search engine, do you want them to see your Facebook info? If not, do NOT click the checkbox or NOT enable the “Public Search: function.

There is no such thing as perfect privacy. But of you follow my suggestions, you’ll be about as secure as you can be on Facebook.

  1. I do computer repair in Reno and you should see the amount of personal information that people put on these sites.

People that claim to care about how secure there computers are then turning around and posting their whole life story on facebook.

    Go figure.
